Adverse weather

Poor weather conditions across the UK can cause last-minute delays. We encourage passengers to check the status of their flight with their airline before travelling to the airport.

Changes to public transport over the New Year period

Over the festive period there will be a number of changes to public transport services running to and from Heathrow.

Passengers should plan their journeys before travelling, and allow for additional time where necessary as trains that are running will be much busier than normal.

Engineering Apprentice

I joined Heathrow as part of the 2023 Engineering apprenticeship intake and before starting, I did a level 2 Diploma in Engineering and Technology Course at Kingston College.

I wanted to be an Engineering Technician at Heathrow as it is a place where you can grow, learn new things every day and where no two days are the same - which is amazing. Heathrow itself is like a mini city, there is so much that goes on to keep Heathrow running.

I am currently working at Terminal 2 Engineering, where there is the potential to work on everything to do with engineering in that terminal. For example, the airbridges which get you from the terminal to plane, the lighting and many more things.

So far, I have enjoyed working on the airbridges the most as there is so much to learn. We use a scissor lift to take us up to the bridges so we can work on them. When you are a qualified technician, you are able to drive the airbridges out to make sure that they are working correctly.

Heathrow is the place to be if you want an interesting career, where every day brings new problems to fix. I always get asked if I work on planes (which I don't), and the best way to describe what we do is to think of tipping Heathrow upside down - whatever stays on the land is what we engineers look after, which is a lot!
